The planned run to Rugby
was cancelled due to the state of the timetable so D345/40145
ran from Crewe to Carnforth and back - twice. Here it is crossing
over the West Coast Main Line to access the platform 12 loop
for a runround.
37038 was dead inside
as a precautionary backup as they entered the station.
The class 40 detached
and ran round via platform 11 - platfrom 12 was closed due to
falling glass, the roof having been damaged during the gales.
Out onto the Chester
line headshunt.
D345 returned to hook
onto the stock leaving the class 37 at the rear of the train,
still dead. To the left is power car 43 092 which had arrived
almost 4 hours late with the 08.40 London-Holyhead. 43123 was
at the other end of the train which was terminated. The journey
on to Holyhead was not pleasant!
The whistler left soon
afterwards en route for Carnforth.
Looking and sounding
very good, will we see it out on the coast as planned? I very
much hope so.
