Crewe Traction Maintenance
Depot Open Day
17th September 2000 Part
1
As part of Crewe & Nantwich Borough
Council's "Open Doors" initiative, English, Welsh and
Scottish Railways opened their Nantwich Road Traction Maintenance
Depot, and International Electric Traction Depot on Wistaston
Road, to the public on a restricted basis. I managed to obtain
tickets for the Nantwich Road site on Sunday and the following
pictures record the event. Thanks go to the Staff and Management
at the EWS depot who had clearly worked hard to prepare for the
event and continued to operate the depot despite the repeated
invasions. Particular thanks to our guide, Steve Scott, for his
assistance and meticulous attention to the matter of safety. Steve
had a difficult job to do in answering questions while watching
out for wanderers in the party. Such places are fascinating but
dangerous to the unwary so thanks again to all concerned for an
enjoyable, enlightening and safe visit.
REMEMBER THAT THIS EVENT WAS SPECIALLY
ORGANISED AND THAT THESE DEPOTS ARE NOT ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC.
RAILWAY DEPOTS ARE DANGEROUS TO THE UNTRAINED SO FOR EVERYONE'S
SAKE PLEASE KEEP AWAY.
These attractive tickets show
the lengths to which EWS went, to put on a good show.

This was the sight we met at the
entrance to the depot with 47212 and an unrecorded class 60 showing
their noses.
