to sample that marvellous cafe on the platform and to savour
the day as the crowds thronged at every point on the railway.
The clear shortage of coaches on the trains meant that seating
was at a premium but it all added to the sense of occasion. People
on trains are normally quick to complain if they are being inconvenienced
but I didn't hear so much as a grumble, everyone was chattering
away and, despite the heat, even the children were happy. It
was a good day on the CVR and great credit is due to all the
members of staff who contributed to making it an occasion to
remember. |
