CHURNET
VALLEY RAILWAY 2006
STEAM GALA - DAY 1 23rd
June 2006
The first Foxfield
locomotive to grace the Churnet Valley tracks, Bagnall 0-4-0ST
"Hawarden"..
Class 47 number 47192/D1842
- not needed today.
7821 "Ditcheat
Manor" was being prepared for the weekend.
"Brightside"
was doing some shunting in the yard.
After a brief wait
Bullied Pacific 35005 "Canadian Pacific" headed
for Leekbrook. Another first - the first Southern engine on the
CVR.
The 3 cylinder beat
was clearly heard as the engine continued North.
When "CanPac"
returned I boarded the train and travelled to Consall where S160
number 5197 was waiting in the loop with a freight train.
Smoke from "CanPac"
drifted back towards the station to create a mist effect and
add atmosphere to the picture - it looks like a November shot.
This engine really
looks good in its black livery, so good I thought we would have
a bigger shot.
More atmosphere as
the train heads for Cheddleton.
A coffee and snack
in the static buffet coach before 35005 reappeared from Froghall.
Back on board and
the run to Leekbrook where the engine ran round. Note that the
level crossing is now "policed" by the train staff.
Off the loop and heading
back toward the train.
Cheddleton and 35005
is waiting to leave.
Another coffee etc
and a walk across the fields to see the Southern return - could
it get any better? Well see on Sunday when all the stock is let
loose.
A visit to the shed
which revealed the "Knotty" coach under restoration.
In the yard was 7821
"Ditcheat Manor".
Also present and being
prepared for the weekend was standard tank 80098.
A spot of mountaineering
to see "CanPac" return from Leekbrook and then
set off for Froghall.
A general view of
the shed yard with Cheddleton village in the distance.
It even looks good
in reverse.
An attempt at "stitching"
which, apart from some bent carriages, is not too bad. A larger
version is available HERE
