CHURNET VALLEY RAILWAY GALA PREPARATION DAY 20th February 2008

Cheddleton Station standing proud in sub zero temperatures.

I was visiting the site to have a look at 44422 which had just arrived from the GCRy. but took the opportunity to have a look around. One visitor for the Spring Gala was 4771 "Green Arrow". Standing close to the engine made me realise that it was much bigger than I had remembered when I saw it leave Crewe with a charter some years ago.

This coming weekend will be one of the last opportunities to see this locomotive in steam before it is withdrawn by the National Railway Museum and put on static display.

Behind stood the LNWR "Super D", another NRM engine on tour.

S160 number 5197.

Not serviceable but on display for the gala is 7821 "Ditcheat Manor".

33102 has been undergoing some body repairs.

The recently arrived diesel.

As I have said before, there is something about the 37's.

Spot the difference?

The remains of 48173 was parked in the bay - a longer term project apparently.

A stroll along the banks of the River Churnet.

The hoarfrost was quite prolific.

The valley looked absolutely beautiful in its Winter coat.

But there were distinct signs of better things to come.
