A visit to the CVR to
take a mid-week ride. I caught the steam-hauled train from Froghall
and got off at Consall to ride back by diesel for some lunch
at Froghall. This is GWR "Prairie" tank 5199, on hire
from The Llangollen Railway" awaiting the arrival of the
diesel service from Cheddleton.
I had hoped for the 37
but it turned out that the DMU was on duty as it slid into Consall
station and really did look the part.
After a tasty Pasty in
the cafe I boarded the DMU to undertake a round trip and managed
to get into the front seat for the return journey. This gave
me the opportunity to take some shots through the front window.
This was taken leaving Cheddleton with the class 37 ahead.
Approaching Consall and
the Prairie tank could be seen bathed in steam while waiting
for the DMU to enter the loop.
Clearly a shy
engine.
Back at Froghall and chance
to look around in the booking hall - wish we had the rest of
it!
Don't know what this one
was all about.
A couple of standard shots of the
DMU waiting to leave on its next turn.
Destination Bristol this
time.
A picnic area has emerged
adjacent to the up platform.
A low down view from the
crossing.
Leaving for Consall (or
Nottingham).
There was always plenty to interest botanists in
the valley - these are Harebells I believe, (Campanula rotundifolia)
and nettles of course.
5199 was conducting its
runround so I caught it amongst the undergrowth.
